  Wireless Networking Modules
This section highlights FT2232C, FT232BM and FT245BM based wireless networking modules and accessories.  These RF transceiver modules are designed to enable wireless networking within a home, office or factory environment by replacing the wiring typically found between a microcontroller/DSP/FPGA, etc. and host PC.

  DLP-RFID1

The DLP-RFID1 is a low-cost, USB-powered module for reading and writing ISO 15693, ISO 18000-3, and Tag-it™ passive RFID transponder tags.  It has the ability to both read and write up to 256 bytes of data in addition to reading the unique identifier (UID).

All of the DLP-RFID1’s electronics and antenna reside inside the unit (3.25” x 2.3” x .83”), and all operational power is taken from the host Windows/Windows CE/Linux/Mac PC via the USB interface.  The range of the internal antenna is from 2-4 inches depending upon the size of the transponder tag.

  DLP Design - DLP-RF1-Z

The DLP-RF1-Z combines a USB interface, Freescale MC13192 2.4GHz Direct-Sequence Spread Spectrum RF Transceiver IC and Freescale MC9S08GT60 microcontroller to form a short-range IEEE 802.15.4 compliant, ZigBee ready transceiver module.

The MC9S08GT60 microcontroller is pre-programmed with DLP Design’s Serial Interface Packet Processor (SIPP firmware) for accessing the transceiver functions via simple serial calls.  The SIPP firmware in the DLP-RF1-Z resides at the application layer and is based on Freescale’s SMAC.  The SIPP firmware provides basic access to DLP-RF1-Z functionality: packet receive and transmit, transceiver settings, EEPROM access, etc.

The MC9S08GT60 can be reprogrammed (if desired) with user-supplied firmware via a 6-pin BDM header that is compatible with the P&E USB-ML-12 and other device programmers (sold separately).

The DLP-RF1-Z transceiver has been granted modular approval.  Under this approval, customer designs meeting a few basic requirements need not undergo additional regulatory agency (FCC, Industry Canada) transmitter testing.  Please refer to the datasheet for additional details.

The DLP-RF1-Z is available on-line from the FTDI Chip Shop, in the USA from DLP Design directly or worldwide through the FTDI Sales Network.

  DLP Design - DLP-RF2-Z

The DLP-RF2-Z combines a Freescale MC13192 2.4GHz Direct-Sequence, Spread-Spectrum RF Transceiver IC and Freescale MC9S08GT60 microcontroller to form a short-range IEEE 802.15.4 compliant, ZigBee ready transceiver module.  The DLP-RF2-Z connects to user electronics via a standard, 20-pin male header.

The MC9S08GT60 microcontroller is pre-programmed with DLP Design’s Serial Interface Packet Processor (SIPP firmware) for accessing the transceiver functions via simple serial calls.  Interface to an external serial host microcontroller/ DSP/FPGA, etc. is accomplished via a simple 2-wire (Rx, Tx and ground) interface.

The SIPP firmware in the DLP-RF2-Z resides at the application layer and is based on Freescale’s SMAC.  The SIPP firmware provides basic access to DLP-RF2-Z functionality: Packet receive and transmit, transceiver settings, EEPROM access, etc.  The DLP-RF2-Z can also operate without a serial host controller.  Basic digital I/O, A/D conversions, temperature measurement, and latching/non-latching relay control are available via the SIPP firmware.

The MC9S08GT60 can be reprogrammed (if desired) with user-supplied firmware via a 6-pin BDM header that is compatible with the P&E USB-ML-12 and device programmers (sold separately).

The DLP-RF2-Z transceiver has been granted modular approval.  Under this approval, customer designs meeting a few basic requirements need not undergo additional regulatory agency (FCC, Industry Canada) transmitter testing.  Please refer to the datasheet for additional details.

  DLP Design - DLP-RF2PROTO

The DLP-RF2PROTO makes easy work of experimenting with the DLP-RF2 transceiver.  It is perfectly suited for easily connecting the DLP-RF2 transceiver to a host Windows/Linux/Mac PC via USB interface such that proposed serial host firmware can be modelled before being programmed into your dedicated microcontroller.

Alternatively, you can add your own microcontroller to the prototyping area to get a jumpstart on developing your new product to incorporate the DLP-RF2.  Level converter circuitry and a DB9 male connector are provided for connection to a legacy RS232C device.  Standard serial Rx and Tx signals (0- and 3-volt) are provided for communicating with the DLP-RF2 transceiver.  Selected Baud rates of 2400, 4800, 9600 (default), 14400, 19200, 38400, 128000 or 250000 Baud can be used to communicate with the RF2 via either the USB or DB9 interfaces.

The DLP-RF2PROTO directly accepts the DLP-RF2 transceiver via a female 20-pin connector.  Eight
buffered LED’s and switches are provided for digital I/O line manipulation/indication and can be disabled for low-power designs.  External power jacks and selection jumpers are provided to allow power source selection.  Power for the DLP-RF2PROTO board can be taken from the USB interface, an external 4-15V DC power supply (sold separately) or a 9-volt battery (not included).  An on-board 3V regulator is provided for controlling the voltage presented to the DLP-RF2 transceiver.

A BDM interface header is also provided for making simple connection to the DLP-RF2's programming interface for users who prefer to use their own custom firmware.  Firmware programming requires the use of a device programmer (sold separately).

  DLP Design - DLP-RF2SENS

The DLP-RF2SENS is designed for use with the DLP-RF2 transceiver (sold separately) and serves as a design example demonstrating several features of the DLP-RF2.  The DLP-RF2SENS demonstrates a temperature and humidity sensor, battery power measurement system, door switch input and the low-power mode of operation.

Using the pre-programmed SIPP firmware, the DLP-RF2 ships from the factory with functionality to support each of these features.
